The Right Shoes Can Save You From Many Orthopedic Foot Problems

The feet plays an important role in the function of the entire body. They allow us to balance and walk, both of which are a huge part of our daily lives. When something is wrong with our feet, life can become very difficult as walking becomes painful or impossible. There are many orthopedic foot problems that can occur, many of which can be treated.

Though some orthopedic foot problems are by nature genetic, many are more often caused by wearing improper footwear. Shoes that are too tight or pointed squeeze the toes together. This can lead to a number of conditions including bunions, hammer toe, claw toe, corns and calluses. Although there is sometimes a genetic or other tendency that exacerbates these conditions, they are most often caused by pressure being placed on the foot in the wrong places, the toes curling up in shoes that are too small, or of the foot rubbing against the shoe.

Most orthopedic foot conditions that are a result of poor footwear can be handled and taken care by orthopedic doctors. Some of them require very little intervention, and wearing good-fitting, comfortable shoes that allow your toes to lie naturally is always recommended for those with these type of foot problems, and as a means of preventing them, for those who don't.

Some peculiar conditions, for example flatfoot may happen because of abnormality of the tendon. However, there are some risk factors that increase the chances of developing flatfoot. These include obesity, diabetes, hypertension, inflammatory diseases, previous trauma or surgery etc. Early on this condition can be treated with drugs and rest, but may eventually require surgery.

Ankle pain and strains are usually the more common complaints you will hear when it comes to problems related to the feet. Most of these type of conditions can be treated by the use of an ankle brace, wearing shoes that fit properly, and, in the case of hereditary and other deformities, surgery.

Some of the foot problems also occur in part due to viruses or fungus, includes athlete's foot, plantar warts and nail fungus infection. There are effective treatments available for all of these conditions, but they do have a tendency to recur.

Apart from surgery for many food problems, there are many different types of orthopedic foot pads, cushions and supports that can help prevent pain and clear up the problem. There are also orthopedic shoes available that are designed specifically to fit feet properly to minimize discomfort due to rubbing, squeezing and other things, as well as holding the foot in the proper position for it to work properly, without causing damage to any part of it.

Orthopedic foot and ankle doctors are well trained to deal specifically with orthopedic foot problems. Because of their specialization, they know this area well, and can provide the best possible treatment for foot problems that occur, whether they are genetic, injuries, result from improper footwear or diseases.
