Orthopedic Rehabilitation Helps You Return To Health
Orthopedics is an all encompassing area of medical knowledge that is concerned in diagnosing, evaluating and treating any condition, injury or disease that occur within the musculoskeletal system. If something goes wrong in your muscles, bones, or with the connective tissue that connects and surrounds them, orthopedics is the medicinal branch that will know what to do about it.
With the heavy demands we place on our bodies every day, there is always a risk that something will go wrong or that will get an injury. This is especially true for people who are very active and have a tendency to overuse or misuse various parts of their bodies in their sports or activities. However, people who are inactive or overweight also demand much of their bodies, as they require it to pull its own weight when the person does not exercise the muscles to put them in the proper condition for even basic daily activities.
When someone experiences pain in their body, whether it's in the muscle, joint or bones, it is a sure indication that something is going wrong. A doctor can help assess the problem and come up with a plan for treatment. One of the very common types of treatment include orthopedic rehabilitation.
Orthopedic rehabilitation is used as treatment for complex musculoskeletal problems that affect more than one part of the body. It combines biology and biomechanics to create a means of the patient returning to functionality.
Orthopedic rehabilitation can be used in cases of back and neck pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, hip pain, lateral or medial epicondylitis, knee and ankle sprains, shoulder tendonitis, fractures and many more. In these cases, the rehabilitation is meant to help ease pain, build strength and help the patient return to a normal range of movement and full functionality.
This type of rehabilitation is also used after orthopedic operations. It might be used after joint replacement surgery, reconstruction surgery, various repairs and releases, spinal fusion and other operations. In these cases, the orthopedic rehabilitation is used to help restore the post operated body part to functionality by means of slowly working toward a broader range of movement.
Orthopedic therapists who are involved in rehabilitation will perform a comprehensive evaluation to check range of motion, posture, functional movement, strength, and pain levels at rest and during activity. For each patient there is an individualized treatment plan that will be most likely to help them return to the proper level of functionality.
After trauma to various parts of your body, or even just when experiencing the pain and difficulty of movement that comes with typical back or other problems, orthopedic rehabilitation can help put you back on the path to living again, the way you want to. Through the various treatments and exercises required in your individualized plan, you can be sure that you are doing everything possible to ensure your return to health.
